Leatherite

Faux leather that wears, cleans and lasts.

About this category

The look of leather. Built for everyday life.

High-durability faux leather for sofas, headboards, chairs, ottomans and commercial seating. We stock 100+ textures and shades from D'Decor, nuhome and V&J Furnishing — from natural grain finishes to bold solids and two-tone patterns. All tested for abrasion, UV fade and moisture resistance.

Leatherite is easier to maintain than genuine leather: a damp cloth handles most spills. It's a practical choice for homes with children, pets or high footfall. We supply by the metre for upholstery projects and also offer full reupholstery using leatherite.

Types available

Six finishes for every look.

01

Natural Grain

A fine, random embossed grain pattern applied under heat and pressure to the leatherite surface, closely replicating the look and texture of full-grain leather. This is the most widely chosen finish for sofas, dining chairs, and upholstered headboards because it most convincingly reads as real leather at a fraction of the cost and with considerably easier maintenance. Available across the full colour range from classic black, white, and cream to contemporary warm greys, navy, olive, and terracotta. Cleans with a damp cloth and mild soap; resists most household spills without staining. Our most popular finish across both residential furniture and commercial seating projects.

02

Matte Finish

A flat, non-reflective surface coating applied over the PVC base, giving a contemporary, understated appearance that reads closer to a premium fabric than a leather substitute. Increasingly popular in modern and Scandinavian-influenced interiors where the visual heaviness of a shiny leather effect would overwhelm the room. Practical advantage: fingerprints, hand prints, and light surface marks are far less visible on matte than on grain or gloss finishes — a significant benefit for dining chairs and armrests that get daily contact. Same durability and spill resistance as other leatherite finishes. Available primarily in neutral tones and deep solids; a smaller colour range than the natural grain variant.

03

Two-Tone / Bi-Colour

Two contrasting leatherite colours used across different panels of the same upholstered piece — a lighter tone on the seat cushion and armrests paired with a deeper tone on the back and sides, or a contrasting band along the headboard border. Each colour is a full-thickness material with its own grain or matte finish; the contrast is applied at the cutting and sewing stage, not printed on, so it is as durable as a single-colour piece. Popular for bar stools, restaurant banquettes, and statement bedroom headboards. Selecting colours from the same tonal family (warm-warm, cool-cool) gives an elegant, cohesive result; high-contrast pairings create a bolder, more graphic effect.

Two-Tone / Bi-Colour
04

Metallic

A foil layer laminated to the leatherite surface creates a reflective, mirror-like sheen ranging from brushed bronze and rose gold to chrome silver and deep gunmetal, depending on the base colour. The visual effect is bold and intentionally statement-making — suited to commercial hospitality environments, home bars, entertainment rooms, and accent furniture where the intention is for the material itself to be noticed. Scratch and abrasion resistance is slightly lower than non-metallic finishes as the foil layer sits at the surface; avoid sharp objects and abrasive cleaning agents. Maintenance: dry cloth only — moisture and cleaning products dull the metallic layer over repeated use.

Metallic
05

Textured / Crocodile

A larger-scale emboss replicating the hexagonal plate structure of crocodile or geometric tile patterns. The depth of the emboss creates shadow lines between each scale that read clearly from across the room, giving the surface a bold graphic quality that fine-grain variants cannot achieve. Popular for bar stool seating, ottomans, accent chairs, and reception benches where the upholstery is meant to be noticed as a design element. Maintaining consistent pattern orientation across all panels of a large piece requires careful cutting; our upholstery team aligns pattern direction as a standard part of the build. The recessed areas between scales trap less surface dirt than a fine grain, making it straightforward to wipe clean.

06

Performance / Anti-Scratch

A reinforced polyurethane topcoat applied over the standard leatherite construction achieves a scratch resistance rating of 50,000+ Martindale abrasion cycles — significantly higher than standard leatherite grades. Originally developed for automotive and commercial seating, this specification is now available for domestic furniture and is the recommended choice for homes with cats (whose claws are the most common cause of leatherite surface damage), young children who climb on furniture, and high-footfall commercial installations where upholstery takes constant daily contact. Available in the same natural grain colours as our standard range. Care is identical to regular leatherite — damp cloth with mild soap — and the surface handles more vigorous cleaning without damage.
