Types available

Six options for every floor.

01

Flatweave / Dhurrie

Woven on a traditional loom with warp and weft threads interlocking flat — no pile, no backing, both sides usable. The absence of pile means dirt sits on the surface rather than embedding deep in the fibres, making flatweave the most low-maintenance rug type available. Lightweight and easy to fold, roll, and take home on a 48-hour approval before committing. Traditional Indian dhurries feature geometric borders, stripes, and medallion patterns in cotton or wool; contemporary versions use the same flat construction with bold modern graphics and natural-dye palettes. Ideal for layering over marble, hardwood, or tile, and for transitional spaces like verandahs and open dining areas.

Hand-Tufted

A tufting gun punches wool or wool-blend pile through a primary canvas backing, which is then sealed with a latex secondary backing for stability. The process allows complex patterns, colour gradients, and custom shapes to be produced relatively quickly compared to hand-knotted methods, making hand-tufted rugs genuinely handcrafted at a mid-range price point. Soft and cushioned underfoot — significantly more comfortable than flatweave for living rooms and bedrooms where you walk barefoot. Custom dimensions can usually be specified from most patterns with a 4–6 week lead time. Our team can advise on minimum sizes and pricing before you commit.

03

Shaggy

A long, deep pile — typically 40–70mm — in polyester, viscose, or polypropylene, creating a lush, enveloping texture that is exceptionally comfortable underfoot and visually striking as a bedroom centrepiece. Viscose shaggy has a luxurious silk-like lustre but requires careful maintenance: keep it away from direct sunlight (which causes yellowing), avoid walking on it with shoes, and have it professionally cleaned rather than machine washed. Polyester shaggy is more forgiving — washable and fade-resistant — at a lower price point. Shake out or vacuum with low suction regularly to keep the pile upright and prevent it from matting at the base.

Kashmiri

Individual wool or silk knots tied by hand onto cotton or silk warp threads — knot count per square inch determines the sharpness of the design and the quality grade. A medium-quality Kashmiri rug has 80–100 knots per square inch; fine silk examples can exceed 300. Weaving a room-sized piece can take six to eighteen months for a single artisan. Because every knot is placed by hand, no two rugs are identical even within the same design — each carries the specific character of its weaver. Kashmiri rugs appreciate in value with age and proper care; they are the only rug type considered a genuine long-term investment. Our showroom carries a curated selection; custom orders with specific dimensions are available.

Contemporary Geometric

Machine-made on Wilton or Axminster looms using heat-set polypropylene pile, permanently set to resist crushing and colour-fast throughout the life of the rug. The machine process allows precise geometric, abstract, and modern pattern reproduction — including very fine line work and colour gradients — that hand-made methods struggle to replicate at this price point. Available in a range of standard sizes with short lead times from in-stock. Stain-resistant and easy to clean with a damp cloth for most spills. A design-forward option for rental properties, offices, and modern homes where the look matters as much as the provenance.

Custom Sizing

Most of our hand-tufted wool rugs and cotton dhurries can be made to any specified dimension — particularly useful for rooms with unusual shapes, under-dining-table specifications where a standard size won't sit correctly, and staircase runners where length and width are dictated by the architecture. The process: bring your measurements (or request a home visit), we send the specification to the weaver, a deposit is taken, and the rug is delivered in 4–6 weeks. Binding and edge finishing are included in the quoted price. Minimum dimensions apply depending on the specific pattern and production method; our team will advise before you commit to an order.
